"Lipstick Jungle" is officially over

The ABC tv show Lipstick Jungle is officialy cancelled. The channel released a statement this week, permanently sealing the fate of the show.
On the upside of things for the fans, the leading cast members are already signed as regulars on different upcoming shows such as "Inside The box" and "Eastwick".

Too bad because while being a great show (a point of vue obviously not shared by ABC executives), Lipstick Jungle also had the best looking promo pictures:

Shonda Rimes new tv show : "Inside the Box"

Grey's Anatomy's creator Shonda Rhimes is behind this new show "Inside the Box", about an ambitious female producer at a Washington news bureau. The series is being produced by ABC Studios, Shonda Rhimes and written by former ABC News producer Richard E. Robbins.
So far the main cast members signed on this project are:

Indira Varma (Rome, Bones- First episode of season 4) will star as Catherine, a fast-talking, whip-smart and ambitious news producer.

Kim Raver (Lipstick Jungle, 24, Third Watch) will play Samantha, a "knockout blond reporter who once was considered the next Diane Sawyer". So what does this casting move by ABC mean for Lipstick Jungle ?, the tv show still in hiatus is losing more and more cast members. With Lindsay Price being signed on "Eastwick", there is little hope for the renewal of the show :(

Sarah Drew (Everwood, Daria) will play an hopeful low-level employee.

Jason George (Eli Stone, What About Brian) will play an on-air reporter and correspondent.




Martin Henderson (Smokin' Aces, Bride and Prejudice) will play Catherine's on and off again boyfriend and male co-worker.



Jennifer Finnigan (Close to Home, The Bold and Beautiful) will play a White House press secretary.




Lloyd Owen (Viva Laughlin) is rumoured to play the incoming bureau chief at the news station.

Lindsay Price, Eastwick Witch or Fashion Designer ?

Lindsay Price has been cast on Eastwick, a remake tv series of the John Updike novel and 1987 movie, "The witches of Easwick" about three beautiful single witches coming into their powers. ABC has ordered a pilot and Lindsay Price will play "Joanna" one of the witches, alongside Jaime Ray Newman ("Kat") and original cast member Veronica Cartwright who will have a supporting role on the new show. The remake will, of course, present a modern representation of the three witches, placing them in social dynamics of a life more 2009/2010-ish.


Now, does it mean that NBC is closing the debate on Lipstick Jungle and ending the show ?
It seems to me that things are heading south for Lipstick Jungle because Lindsay Price is already linked by contract to the show, and ABC already signing her on a new show is surely not a good sign. I also don't think that NBC would release her from "Lipstick" if there were any future in sight for the show. However, a plausible solution would be to move the show to another network or even on cable tv.
Anyway, I keep my fingers crossed for ABC pushing back "Eastwick" to allow another season of Lipstick Jungle, implying of course that NBC hear our prayers...
