A True Canadian work of Art

Two weeks ago, I saw the movie "One Week" at the theater. Starring Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek","Fringe") and Liane Balaban, It's a movie about a man, whom dealing with the news of terminal cancer, decides to take a road trip through Ontario Canada, on his dream bike.

I had no real expectations before seeing this movie, and that may be part of the reason I had chosen to watch it. I wasn't in the mood for any box office winner and I had already seen most of the blockbusters. So I just picked up a ticket for the only movie in the list that I had not heard a single review on. And I'm glad that I chose this movie because I found it really beautiful, both visually and intellectually.
The movie has a "down-to-earth" feel to it, funny at times, and the depiction of the Ontarian region was as heartwarming as the scenery was beautiful.

Unfortunately, this movie is not the type of movies that reach high ranks in the box office. Most people will find it boring and won't see the movie simply because it's not action packed, it's very quiet and slow paced. The movie really makes you think about life, priorities and the bonds we form with people around us.

Ok, I will stop here, I don't want to spoil the movie for you.

Trust me, the trailer doesnt do it justice. It only shows one side of the movie.
I highly recommend this movie to everyone

Donna is back on 90210 !!

Donna played by Tori Spelling is back on "90210" and if the little bird is right, she is here to stay (at least for the rest of the season).
She will make her "big" comeback on next episode entitled "Okaeri, Donna!", tomorrow April 14 on The CW. Other than Tori Spelling, we will have Oscar winner Screenwriter Diablo Cody making a guest appearance on this episode.

Official episode synopsis: Silver and Kelly receive an unexpected visit from Donna. Meanwhile, Dixon locates his biological mother and enlists Annie's help to go visit her. Also, Naomi's infatuation with Liam gradually increases.

And as you may already know, Dustin Milligan who is playing the attractive (CW's key casting characteristic) "Ethan" has been cast off/ fired/let go, or whatever the publicist said, from the show for undisclosed reasons.
Now this move doesn't really bother me, as I've always been indifferent to this character. Despite the omnipresence of "Ethan" on the show, I don't think that I will miss him much because his departure will beget more focus on other characters like "Dixon", "Kelly" or "Naomi" whom I'm starting to like more and more.

And oh, if by some twisted hand of fate (also known as the writing staff), Shenae Grimes ("Annie") happened to also leave 90210/Act less like a spoiled brat/become more interesting..., I may consider to forgive the CW for cancelling "Privileged".

Melrose Place 2.0 News !

This week bring us more exciting news on the upcoming Melrose Place, as we have 2 former regular cast members returning to the series:

Laura Leighton is returning to her role as "Sydney", the bad redhead who supposedly died in a car accident at the end of season 5. She will be the new landlord of the apartment complex.

I'm curious to see how the writers will make her come back from this carnage:

"Dr Michael Mancini" played by Thomas Calabro is back on TV !
The last time I saw him, it was on "Greek" as Rebecca logan's dad.

Melrose Place 2.0 (is it the official name ?) is more promising then ever with theses additions to the cast. Now can we please bring back Courtney Thorne-Smith (Allison) and Andrew Shue (Billy) to give more reasons to the fan to watch the show ? Or even better, wouldn't it be nice to just forget all the new actors, bring back everyone from the old show and take things where we left off ?

And one more thing (to the folks at CW and CBS): Now that the casting is almost closing and things are already official, don't you think that starting the promotion for the new show will be a good idea ?

"Fringe" is back tonight !

Preview of the new episode of "Fringe",

That season 2 finale might also be the last episode of the show, as "TTSCC" is in danger of cancellation. I'm so disappointed that I am not even going to get into the details. Is The Sarah Connor Chronicles Cancelled?

Derek's death forshadowed at Comic-Con

At Comic-Con 2008, John Wirth (Producer of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) hinted that a regular cast member would die this season. We now know whom he was talking about: Derek. Did he really have to be killed off ? And if so, couldn't the writers make his death more spectacular ? I've always imagined his death to be more...let's say painful, with lots of blood after a fight to the death with a mean and merciless T-888. Not that I spend my evenings wandering around in my living room, thinking about a fictional character's demise or anything, but you get my point: Derek Reese deserved a greater termination.

"Lipstick Jungle" is officially over

The ABC tv show Lipstick Jungle is officialy cancelled. The channel released a statement this week, permanently sealing the fate of the show.
On the upside of things for the fans, the leading cast members are already signed as regulars on different upcoming shows such as "Inside The box" and "Eastwick".

Too bad because while being a great show (a point of vue obviously not shared by ABC executives), Lipstick Jungle also had the best looking promo pictures:

A piece of advice to 20th Century Fox: Next time, try CGI

when I was younger Dragon Ball Z was my favorite manga (still is), written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. I used to watch it on "Club Dorothée" every morning during the summer. My favorite character was Gohan, he was never really liked fighting but he always came through when his friends needed help. As for Vegeta, I loved him for the same reasons people dislike villains, he's arrogant, has no pity for the weak and he hates Goku with a passion.

Theme song (ps: I'm french, I didn't know any english before 10, so "DBZ" will always feel a bit weird to me in any other languages)

Dragon Ball Evolution trailer,
In theaters April 2009 (North America Release)

I've seen the movie and, well let's just say I died a little inside at various scenes.
From all the reviews out there, here are the words that best described my take on the movie:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/dragonball-evolution

The reasons why so many people hated it may be the many differences between the movie and the anime, like Bulma' s hair or Piccolo's color. I also think that they (haters, bad reviewers,ME ?) might have forgotten that this is an adaptation from the manga, so changes are to be expected in the movie.
So please, don't let my point of vue discourage you from seeing this movie. This is coming from a guy who didn't think "Gigli" was that bad; so every fan (or non fan) should see it and form his own opinion on the matter.

The amazing Zatanna- Smallville S08E17

Besides "Bride" and "Legion", Yesterday's episode ("Hex") was one of the best episodes in which we have a fellow DC Comic character who decides to drop by Smallville. The beautiful magician Zatanna was played by Serinda Swan, you may or rather not remember her from that episode of Supernatural where demon Meg was after "the colt", killing John's friends in the way. She was the hospital receptionist,... still nothing ?. Anyway, in Smallville she was just like I had pictured Zatanna to be like in flesh, with the magic tricks and the intriguing personality that makes you wonder which side of the battle between evil and good she really does lean into.
I also liked the fact that the episode stayed true to the portrait of Zatanna in all of her aspects: her costume was quite accurate, the writers used her father's death as a back story to her character, and the icing on the cake (I hate that expression, but can't stop using it), casting spells by talking backwards.
It was about time that a not so popular from the "DC gang" made an appearance on the show and needless to say, it was a wonderful experience.

So thank you Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, Joe Shuster and all the writing team for that much underrated episode that only geeks like me would truly be grateful for.

"Melrose Place 2.0" cast update

Two more actors have recently been cast on the new Melrose Place:

Colin Egglesfield (remember him from All My Children, or not) is a newest addition to the cast of the new Melrose Place. He will play the role of Auggie, an avid surfer and sous-chef with ambitions to own a restaurant.

Stephanie Jacobsen is the second newbie. You'll probably remember her as the badass "Jesse" from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles or"Kendra Shaw" from Battlestar Galactica Razor. She will play Lauren, a med student at UCLA living a double life as a high-end call girl.
